China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China with support via the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund. To be sited in the soon-to-be completed Xiamen University’s Malaysia Campus (http://www.xmu.edu.my/index.html), the College inherits the spirit of Mr. Tan Kah Kee and aims to promote cooperative relationships between China and ASEAN countries through higher education. Its missions are to promote education and outreach, research, professional training, and academic exchange and help develop science-based marine related policy. It strives to become an internationally influential center for marine education, personnel training, scientific & technological innovation and cooperation.
The College will establish 2 departments and 3 centers, which are the Department of Marine Biology and Biotechnology, the Department of Ocean and Environmental Sciences and the Research Center for Marine Sciences & Technology, the Research Center for Marine Affairs & Sustainable Development, and the Training Center for Marine Technology & Management.
The College is still under construction and plans to enroll the first group of students in September, 2016. Currently, we are accepting applications for several positions as follows:
1. Dean
Responsibilities:
· Be in charge of the organizing and general conduct of the college, formulating and implementing the strategy of marine discipline development, and leading the college towards dynamic developments
· Be responsible for building up a strong teaching and research team and improving the overall academic level of the team in such efforts as setting up a long-term team-building plan, recruiting high-level talents, cultivating young researchers and enhancing teamwork
· Explore new model for talent cultivation and cultivate talents with creative thinking.
Requirements:
· A doctoral degree and a full professorship (or an equivalent position) in a prominent university (or research institutes)
· Be a specialist in any field related to marine sciences
· Be in good health and 55 years old or younger(The age restriction can be exempt for outstanding talent)
· Overseas experience (study or work) is required. The candidate should have international perspective, strategic and creative thinking on marine discipline development
· Be expected to have distinguished academic credentials and international recognition for his/her achievements in research, scholarship and teaching
· A proven record of high-level administrative and leadership experience in a university setting, such as a department, a research institute or a laboratory, and will be able to take charge of teaching, research, team building, discipline development, social services and administration.
2. Associate Dean
Responsibilities:
· Assist the Dean in organizing and general conduct of the college, formulating and implementing the strategy of marine discipline development, and leading the college towards dynamic developments
· Assist the Dean in building up a strong teaching and research team and improving the overall academic level of the team in such efforts as setting up a long-term team-building plan, recruiting high-level talents, cultivating young researchers and enhancing teamwork
· Explore new model for talent cultivation and cultivate talents with creative thinking.
Requirements:
· A doctoral degree and at least an associate professorship (or an equivalent position) in a prominent university (or research institutes)
· Be a specialist in any field related to marine sciences
· Be in good health and 50 years old or younger(The age restriction can be exempt for outstanding talent)
· Overseas experience (study or work) is required. The candidate should have international perspective, strategic and creative thinking on marine discipline development
· A proven record of high-level administrative and leadership experience in a university setting, such as a department, a research institute or a laboratory, and will be able to take charge of teaching, research, team building, discipline development, social services and administration.
3. Office Administrator
Responsibilities:
· Manage overall administrative affairs, reception work and logistics work of the college
· Maintain and record of income and expenditure of the college
· Responsible for delivering notice and information concerning administrative affairs, management of the college's seal, coordination between departments and leadership
· Responsible for archive document management and regulation implementation
· Responsible for meeting organizing and arrangement; prepare meeting minutes, memos, reports, presentation materials as and when required
· Manage external correspondence with government ministries and agencies as well as private organizations
· Act as the secretary to the College Faculty Committee
· Prepare and constantly the college’s calendar of events
Requirements:
· Master’s degree in administration/management/marine science related fields, from a recognized university
· Proficient in spoken and written English, preferably spoken Chinese and Malay
· At least two years of experience in handling administrative matters
· Good interpersonal and communication skills with a pleasant personality and team player.
4. Academic Administrator
Responsibilities:
· Assist in formulating various professional talent cultivation scheme
· Keep and maintain student files and records of class attendance; responsible for teaching files and data collecting, sorting and file management
· Organize all kinds of teaching research and reform, curriculum development, laboratory and practice base construction
· Assist in organizing, implementing and submitting teaching materials
· Responsible for teaching schedule arrangement, students' course selection, examination arrangement and other teaching management affairs
· Responsible for student status management affairs such as performance review and registration affairs
· Assist in graduation affairs including intermediate inspection, thesis defense, recommendation and so on; responsible for graduation thesis data archiving and preservation
· Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
· A bachelor’s degree in education/ Marine Biology/ Marine Chemistry/ Environmental Chemistry or other relevant fields, preferably with honors, from a recognized university
· Proficient in spoken and written English, preferably spoken Chinese and Malay
· Preferably 2 years of working experience in an educational institution
· A self-starter with qualities of a team player and yet is able to work independently
· Possess a high sense of responsibility and integrity
5. Laboratory Technician
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting and supporting the operations of laboratories, including all the related preparatory and maintenance work to ensure the readiness of the laboratories for lessons, experiments, examinations, exhibitions and workshops
Key responsibilities
· Provide assistance in general laboratory activities such as setting up laboratories, and instrument rooms
· Assist in laboratory experiments including the preparation, sampling, data collection and analysis and preparation of results and reports
· Maintain a safe, clean and efficient working environment in the laboratories for students and staff
· Prepare laboratories for experiments according to class schedules and guide students during experiments
· Take care of all the laboratory equipment and ensure all the equipment is in good working conditions
· Liaise with vendors and suppliers for the purchase, maintenance, servicing, and calibration of laboratory equipment
· Conduct a yearly inventory of all the laboratory equipment
· Ensure all the laboratory equipment is regularly serviced and maintain an d servicing/maintenance record of the equipment
· Perform standardized laboratory tests to verify the characteristics or composition of the materials used in the laboratory
· Ensure the proper disposal of biological and chemical wastes by following the standard laboratory safety guidelines and procedures
· Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
· A bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology/ Marine Biology/ Marine Chemistry/ Environmental Chemistry or other relevant fields, preferably with honors, from a recognized university
· Proficient in spoken and written English, preferably spoken Chinese and Malay
· Preferably 2 years of working experience in an educational institution
· A self-starter with qualities of a team player and yet is able to work independently
· Possess a high sense of responsibility and integrity
· Display a keen interest in coaching students in experiments
· Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and management would be an advantage
