题目:Coastal and Marine Remote Sensing for the Understanding of Ecological Processes

摘要:Marine ecosystem contains very complex ecological processes. There are three interacting subsystems: surface, midwater and benthic. Remote Sensing provides key inputs for the understanding of marine ecological processes. This talk presents three case studies to illustrate the value of coastal and marine remote sensing technologies and spatial modelling techniques in marine ecological applications. The first case study uses time-series MODIS SST data to map the Leeuwin Current, which has significant ecological influence on the coastal and marine ecosystems of Western Australia, and investigate its spatial and temporal variability. The second study demonstrates the value of multibeam eco-sounder in the mapping of seabed habitat properties. The third study applies spatial modelling techniques to the multibeam data and other environmental variables for the prediction of benthic species and biodiversity.
