Abstract:
The Labrador Sea is an important marginal sea where the upper layer of the Atlantic Deep Water is formed, and its interior heat content is highly correlated with the Atlantic thermohaline circulation strengths. The properties and the exportation rate of the newly formed mode water is significantly affected by the eddies generated around the boundary of the Labrador Sea. This research focuses on the mean state and the interannual variability of the eddy activities in terms of the eddy kinetic energy. The driving mechanisms for the mean state and the interannual variability are investigated based on satellite observations and numerical experiments, so the inconsistency between the two in previous studies can be understood.

张玮玮博士2015年12月获得美国特拉华大学海洋学博士学位,2016年3月起在MEL从事博士后研究工作,合作导师为严晓海教授。张玮玮博士主要研究北大西洋副极地环流的大-中尺度海洋热力、动力过程,及其与气候变化的相互影响和反馈。
