From Nov. 24th to 25th, the Workshop on Sustainable Aspects of Marine Sciences in China and Indonesia was successfully held in Xiamen University. With the establishment of China–ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, Xiamen University seeks more cooperation in marine science education and research with ASEAN countries. The purpose of this workshop is to promote close collaboration in research and education among Xiamen University, First Institute of Oceanography, China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences and institutions in Indonesia. During the workshop, researchers from China and Indonesia also presented the topics and areas that can facilitate further collaboration among the members.
As a co-product of the workshop, Sino-Indonesian Consortium for Marine and Research Studies (SIMARS) was built up unanimously, which will give priority to a full range of cooperation to promote the development of scientific research and education between institutions in China and Indonesia. All members committed to maintain and promote cooperation and communication links with further exchange of scientific and academic knowledge to complement each other’s advantages for mutual improvement. China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (Xiamen University Malaysia) is proud to be one of the committed institutions with Dr Yeap Swee Keong appointed as the contact person for the consortium.
